Blog Post 10: Web Presentation & Design

 In chapter 11, we see relation to our final projects within these pages. As we focus on the "presentation-focused" aspect of Digital Humanities, it's important to understand what exactly the presentation formats are. To start, its important to reflect on what you want your website to portray that will serve for its overall design, which in relation to our recent classes- is deciding what platform to help build our website, and brainstorming what we want to be our focuses in our MEdiation project. 

Its important to judge the difference between a good and bad platform; such as what was being done in class on Tuesday. And on Thursday, to dicuss what makes a website good, and what makes a website bad. According to the textbook, its important to keep in mind these formats, "Description, Activity, Specifications, Popular Applications, and Implementation." That of which has defintions and collections to each category when starting out a website. These standard categories stretch across several different formats such as Collections and/or repositories, Exhibit, and Publication. Not only this but the chapter also gives various tips to beginners which I find helpful in relation to the upcoming project. 

For my final project, I have already chosen a web authorizing platform in which I want to display my webpage. I chose Wix, which I found to be the best option after finding out squarespace is unreasonably expensive. I plan to focus on my writings due to by English TBD major, but also a lot of my photography work that goes into my Studio Art minor. I chose a template that is a professional template for photography and overall artwork where I plan to share my various writings as well. I have already laid out majority of pages within my website, however just waiting on getting started on the mini-projects to implement into my website.

    I love your MEdiation project idea! I think the finished product will look amazing. I have yet to choose an idea as to what my project will focus on, however I have also chosen Wix as my software. Wix provided as a good website design tool, by using AI as well as an easy-to-use search bar. Wix also makes it easy to upload media into the platform for more accessible sources which will be very helpful for the project. As for my project I will be looking for a very simple and modern design and Wix's design templates will be able to execute my ideas.

       I think the most important take away from all the readings thus far is that Digital Humanities is not one thing or even a field of study. Digital Humanities is an umbrella term for a process or tool used to answer humanities research questions or present information regarding the humanities. What is Digital Humanities? Post #1 (Kira Littlefield)

Digital Humanities can be looked at in many different ways it seems. Based off the readings from the textbook, manifesto and website it seems Digital Humanities can have many definitions. If I were to define Digital Humanities I would say it is a technological way to look into and understand the cultural and historical aspects of society and the world. Trying to define Digital Humanities for me was difficult, and I am not even sure I am correct in my definition, but I know this class and the following readings will help me to either correct my definition or prove it even further.
